Mar 31, 2009 · Those Forks keep it from kicking back. And the area just above those Forks on the bottom of the bow IS THE ONLY AREA OF THE BOW USED FOR CUTTING!!!! You do not use the top of the bow and you do not use the bottom of the bow like you would use a bar saw. A bow saw is made specifically 4 bucking a log once it is on the ground.

Using a Husqvarna 455 or 460 rancher in a chainsaw mill?
Nov 24, 2015 · Hi Doc, I use a Husqvarna 460 with my Alaskan mill. I've got a 24" bar, a 28" bar, and a 32" bar (referring to the chain bars), but I mostly use the 24" and the 28". I know it's only a midsized saw but it seems to be adequate for the milling I've done. I've milled all or part of about 40 trees with it including large mesquites and osage orange.

Aug 9, 2012 · It's (The Bar), not any longer but it is a bit wider, plus it is a hardened bar, unlike the laminated homeowner bar. If you don't want to add another $50 for the Oregon bar, order the Oregon 72LPX070G. It will fit the original bar just fine, but beware of kickback…. and heat from the low quality bar…..
Need to find good chain for Poulan pro - LumberJocks …
Nov 17, 2022 · Eventually you will need a bar sharpening guide to set the height to file down the depth gauge on each tooth or the chain will stop cutting. I too carry an extra chain when out away from home. A properly tightened chain should lift away from the bar at the center point about 3/16 to 1/4". Too tight and you will wear out the sprocket and bar faster.
Compound Dovetail Jig for Log Cabin Timbers
May 16, 2009 · Essentially the jig encases the end of the log that is being dovetailed and a chainsaw (with metal guides attached to the bar) slide down the jig and cut the dovetails. Because of the compound nature of the joints we needed to build a Left and Right version of the jig. The jigs are made primarily out of birch plywood.
Osage Orange - worth slabbing? - LumberJocks Woodworking …
Jan 1, 2020 · Hi guys, I don't think I posted this as it's been months. I've got this 65"x24" log of orange osage. I know nothing about pith and growth and how it will react to being slabbed. I do know that the cheapest slab job is a mobile guy and will do …
How Do I Hollow Out Logs From End To End?
Oct 11, 2012 · And adze and an ax may work. If you have a chainsaw, that may make some quick work of some of it (careful though b/c it's dangerous to hollow with a chainsaw). Worst case, use a circular saw to cut several slits down the log and then …
Safe Use Of The King Arthur's Lancelot Carving Disk
Jul 17, 2012 · Thanks for pointing out the safety issue with a grinder. Chainsaw kickback happens when the tip of the chainsaw catches in the wood fibers instead of cutting and the saw flies up. A grinder with a round chainsaw blade is always cutting with the tip of the chainsaw blade. It's got to be potentially dangerous in all directions.
working with hickory | LumberJocks Woodworking Forum
Feb 24, 2025 · I cannot leave a log to rot, so we took the wood from a dying hickory tree we had to cut down in Texas and cut it into 2 inch-ish rough planks with a chainsaw and jig. I sticked it immediately, but some twisting occurred, unfortunately. When I got it back to California (and immediately sticked...
