Dec 20, 2019 · To avoid the so called "cold weld" between bullet and case, anybody tried applying a bullet lubricant like liquid alox from Lee, commonly used on cast lead bullets? Roll the bullets over a small amount of alox. Allow to dry and seat them. Remove the excess from the bullet and neck. Will try it soon

May 19, 2013 · I've experienced what can only be explained as "cold welding" of the case necks. They were .223's loaded as a prototype batch of 20 rounds for Hi-Power competition. They got put aside, and I didn't shot them for about 12 years. The cases had only been reloaded once. When I fired the first half-box, I noticed split necks on almost all of the cases.

Might take him a decade to shoot it all. other load I wanted to put 1500 rounds of 77smk and 8208 together for long term storage.

Aug 28, 2012 · Have a buddy who shot some 10 yr old factory ammo through a bolt gun and they all had flattened primers. Is "cold welding" or the boolits gettin sticky/stuck over time a possibility? Told him to bump with a seating die to see if it makes a diff. Any thoughts?

Mar 4, 2021 · I don't know if sea level or less humid high altitude load process has any effect on this cold weld. Some bullets I have handled have a coat of something as they are slick, some others are not and do begin to discolor over time. So, leads me to believe most components are coated with something depending on the manufacturer.

Aug 29, 2019 · Before going to this extreme, I'd make sure I'd put enough heat to the break with a cold towel or dry ice wrap on the barrel. The Cerakote is the last thing to worry about. This AAC QD was used to chase threads of a previously pinned break.... problem was the pin was still proud in the threads and a Gorilla was doing the work.

Aug 1, 2019 · I don't know if it's truly a 'cold weld' but if you wet tumble and seat bullets, a day or so later those things are going to be damn near glued in there vs. how it feels with dry neck lube; happens to me even if I'm running ~.001 tension/interference fit. Lastly, if you're worried about consistent seating pressures, drop the wet tumbling.
