While the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi appear similar, they are in fact two distinct breeds that developed separately centuries ago in geographically distinct areas of Wales. They are part of the cultural heritage of Wales and each breed deserves to be preserved and protected like any cultural treasure.

The Welsh Corgi appeared at Crufts—a dog show held annually in the United Kingdom—for the first time in 1927. [ 14 ] The first championship was awarded at a Cardiff show in 1928, to a red and white Pembroke bitch named Shan Fach.
