Wisconsin Evolution is a cross-college institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison whose mission is to foster multidisciplinary research to address complex biological problems facing society, and to improve public understanding of evolution through education and outreach.

The J. F. Crow Institute for the Study of Evolution draws its name from the late James F. Crow. Prof. Crow was an internationally recognized leader in the science of population genetics, which forms an essential foundation for modern evolutionary theory.

World-renowned theoretical population geneticist James F. Crow (1916-2012) was one of the founders of the field of molecular evolution, and served on the Genetics faculty at the University of Wisconsin starting in 1948.
