The rare Model 206, with engraved gold plating and five-ply, gold-sparkle binding, was the top of Dobro’s line in the early 1930s. In September ’34 Dobro introduced a line of metal-body guitars. Rudy Dopyera wanted Dobro to build metal instruments from the beginning, but John was not satisfied with the soldering method used by National.

Construction is top-notch and after work it plays spot-on and is ready to go. Repairs included: a fret level/dress, cone seating, intonation adjustments, and setup. Body: solid spruce over mahogany. Cone type: spider-bridge single-cone. Bridge: traditional spider. Fretboard: ebony. Neck wood: mahogany.

Nickel-plating was used on most guitars below Model 55's, with chrome-plated coverplates appearing on most models above the 55 and up to the 156, at which point they were gold-plated up to and including the top-of-the-line Model 206.

Jan 22, 2009 · Is this one of the elusive Model 200/205/206 series? The Randy Getz Dobro history article says the metal work in that model series was all finished in gold plate or anodized gold. Same article says the only Dobro model series with solid spruce top is Model 200/205/206.
