Some display modules, such as scrolling text on the LED dot matrix display will demand a significant fraction of the available memory. You are unlikely to save much memory by implementing the equivalent functionality without the stdio framework.

8x8 LED Dot Matrix with MAX7219 Controller. Each dot matrix units is an 8x8 LED matrix. All the LEDs in the matrix have the same color. You can make the display wider by setting the "chain" attribute. For example, setting "chain" to 4 will chain four dot matrix units horizontally, resulting in 32x8 matrix (four times 8x8 matrix).

Sep 2, 2014 · One very fast way to get that kind of sparse pixelated look is to use the CC Ball Action effect with the Grid Spacing and Ball Size set much lower than the defaults. grid renders faster than ball action, which may make a difference if you are doing a lot of these or combining with other effects.
