China (中国, Chūgoku) is a main character in the series Hetalia. He is the personification of China. In 2008, Himaruya gave human names to some of the characters and he received the name Wang Yao (王耀, Wanyao or Ouyou, 王耀, Wáng Yào).

According to Hidekaz Himaruya, his first name can be rendered as either Yao or Yue in both English and Japanese (Yao is the more common moniker of the two in fandom). "Yao" in Chinese means "brightly shining." His last name, "Wang," means "king" in Chinese.
