Help in identifying a vintage reel - Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Dec 29, 2019 · Abbey & Imbrie was a retailer/wholesaler who, over the years, sold reels produced by several different makers. A&I did not make any of their own reels and many of the reels that they sold are only marked with their brand and not that of the actual maker. Julius vom Hofe made many of the reels sold by A&I.
Pflueger Medalist; What to look for... - Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Apr 30, 2012 · I fished the Eel from the late 50's until I left Humboldt County around 2000. Pflueger reels and Fenwick fly rods and the old sealdry (sp?) latex waders were the norm during the early years. We used our Hardy reels of course but by and large, the Pfluegers ruled. I still have my Pflueger reels from the 60's, all in great shape with spare spools.
Reels: Left or right hand retrieve? - Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Jan 14, 2003 · I started fishing with an open face spinning reel. I cast with the right hand and reel with the left. This carries over to my fly fishing too. I have tried some of the bait casters using the left hand to cast and right hand to retreive and it is very uncomfortable. I think comfort is the the most important thing.

Hardy light weight series will be at the top of your budget. Sage had the 500 series reels (503-509) made by Hardy but with a bronze anodized finish. I really like Abel's TR series ...
Semi Automatic Fly Reels | Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Jul 10, 2008 · I was introduced to steelhead fishing on the North Shore of Lake Superior tributaries in 1961. 98 % of those fishing both the North and South shore tribs were using Automatic fly reels. The reel was loaded with mono, and locked onto a fly rod. This was chuck and duck fishing at it's finest. Typical gear setup at the terminal end.

Favorite Rod and Reel Travel case? | Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Jan 2, 2024 · I ended up using a 40L patagonia black hole duffel to carry my reels, lines, leader, bone/permit flies boxes and a patagonia rod roll that I attached with a couple carabiners. Seemed more reasonable than the patagonia rod/reel carry on. My friend had the Simms GTS - unlike the fishpond Dakota, this bag can fit large arbor reels.
