Dec 13, 2024 · The EM-1 is based on the Mauser Gerät 06, a gas piston, roller locking rifle. This design was used by Stanley Thorpe, a British gun designer, who incorporated it into a bullpup action.

For Mausers Gerät 06H/StG 45 (M) project Maier assumed a 120 g bolt head and 360 g bolt carrier (1 to 3 ratio). However, the design required that the bolt started moving while the bullet was still in the barrel and the spent case fully pressurized. Using traditionally cut chambers resulted in separated cartridge case heads during testing.

Mar 9, 2011 · The EM-1 was a gas operated, roller locked design clearly inspired by the German work on the Gerat 06 and similar rifles. It used 20-round magazines, and fired the .280 British cartridge, which pushed a 139gr bullet at approximately 2500fps – a better automatic rifle cartridge than the 7.62×51.

It was a bullpup select-fire rifle with a carrying handle and integral optical scope, a trait shared with the competing EM-2 rifle. The EM-1 was designed to be adaptable to multiple combat scenarios; it could be used as an assault weapon, a marksman rifle or a support weapon.
