Apollo was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders of Scotstoun. She was launched on 15 October 1970 and commissioned on 28 May 1972, making her the penultimate Leander.

HMS Apollo (F70) was a Type 12I or Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy, and one of 6 ships of the name. She was sold to the Pakistan Navy as PNS Zulfiquar (F262). In 1973 she was deployed in the Second Cod War. She was rammed by ICGV AEgir during the deployment.
