Huron University, also known as Si Tanka University at Huron, was a private university formerly located in Huron, South Dakota. Founded in 1883, it closed on April 1, 2005.

Mar 10, 2022 · Huron College was founded in 1883 as Presbyterian University of South Dakota and located in Pierre. The City of Pierre agreed to furnish 20 acres of land and $13,000, if buildings worth $30,000 would be constructed by July 1884. The College opened in late September 1883 with three students.

1997 - Huron University becomes a campus of Colorado Technical University on January 1 - name of athletic teams changed to "Eagles". 1999 - A group of University administrators formed NEWCO and raised capital from local investors to buy Heron University.

The Huron University Foundation was organized and incorporated in 1982 exclusively as a non-profit educational and charitable corporation for the benefit and purposes of Huron College/University and the students. The Foundation is the guardian of the permanent endowment fund of the college.

The Huron Community Campus (HCC), located in Huron, SD, teams with Northern State University to provide a comprehensive menu of courses and programs. The HCC campus is home to several NSU degree programs .

Chartered by Sioux Tribe in 1973, Si Tanka University started as the Cheyenne River Community College. The college then changed its name in July 1999 to honor one of its leaders, Si Tanka (Bigfoot). In May 2001, the small tribal college bought Huron University, a private, accredited four-year university established in 1883.

It was the home of Si Tanka University (formerly Huron College) from 1883 to 2005. Huron is also home to a Catholic elementary school called Holy Trinity School, and a private non-denomination K-12 School, James Valley Christian School .

Aug 15, 2001 · Si Tanka College, a small tribal college in South Dakota, has purchased Huron University, a private university in the northeastern corner of the state. When the sale was finalized in May, officials from Si Tanka and Huron expressed their belief that the historic event will result in unprecedented opportunities for both institutions.
