Dr. Ureña is a member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society and the IEEE Signal Processing Society. He was the general co-chair of the Symposium WISP'2007 and currently he is serving as Associate Editor of the journal IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurements.

J. Ureña holds a Degree in Telecommunications Eng. from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and PhD in Telecommunications Eng. from the University of Alcalá, where currently occupies a position of Full Professor in the Dep. of Electronics. He has been Director and Secretary of the Electronics Dep. of the Univ. of Alcalá.
