During Westinghouse's ownership, KPIX was the company's only television station on the West Coast. The logo design, especially the font (called "Westinghouse" or "Anklepants" (due to a similar typeface) by some people), was originally introduced when then-owner Group W introduced its design language in 1963.

Former KPIX logo (February 3, 2013 – December 18, 2022) KPIX's distinctive "5" logo dates back from the station's days under Westinghouse ownership, when the "Group W font" was standard on KPIX and its sister stations after about 1965.
