Biggest manufacturer (Lada) is only competitive because of Renault/Nissan technology and hasn't made a single new platform by themselves since 80s (I know that Vesta and X-Ray's platform goes back to 2006, but it was in joint development with a canadian company).

Mar 20, 2016 · The development of that car began in the mid 1980s - it was put on hold in the early 1990s due to the end of the USSR and the resulting economic collapse and resumed in 1995. AvtoVAZ brought that car to the 1998 Paris Motor Show, where it was reportedly well received. However, it wasn't put into production.

There are some pretty innovative concepts being made still. Last 5 years or so there was the Mazda Vision Coupe concept, Acura Precision Concept, the Buick Wildcat (shame they don't make sedans anymore). Stellantis' RAM EV and Charger Concepts were wild. The new clown shoe concept BMW put out was a brutal tease, looked production ready.
