Iago is a major character in Disney's Aladdin franchise. He is Jafar 's former pet parrot who served him in his plot to gain the Genie 's lamp in order to overthrow the Sultan and his daughter, Jasmine and conquer Agrabah, only to be thwarted alongside his master and sealed within his lamp by Aladdin.

Iago is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Pictures ' animated film Aladdin (1992), the direct-to-video sequels The Return of Jafar (1994), Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996), and the television series.

Inside the Genie's Lamp. Iago appears as the protagonist of the short film, where he escapes Jafar's lamp. Now free, Iago takes up residence within the Genie's lamp but is relentlessly annoyed and tortured by the unseen "Voice of the Lamp", who oversees the household in the Genie's absence.

Iago has appeared in many games throughout the Kingdom Hearts series. He played a minor role in the original Kingdom Hearts reprising his role as Jafar's lackey and assists the sorcerer in finding Jasmine and stealing Genie's lamp from Aladdin.
