1210 is a preserved former New South Wales Government Railways Z12 class steam locomotive. Built in 1878 by Beyer, Peacock & Company, England, it is preserved at the Canberra Railway Museum.

1210 is an example of the Z12 (formerly C79) class locomotives, introduced in 1877 for express passenger and mail trains. A total of 68 were built, and they served as the top-link motive power of the New South Wales Railways for 20 years.

According to ‘Steam Locomotive Data’ (the official source for NSWGR steam locomotive service records), 1210 entered service as C 120 in September 1878. It was renumbered to 1210 of the (Z )12 class in 1924.

Restoration plan for Canberra's oldest train to go full steam ahead
Aug 25, 2023 · The money will go towards a conservation management plan for the centrepiece of its collection, Locomotive 1210, which pulled the first train into Canberra in May 1914 – then a city under construction. Built by Beyer, Peacock and Company in Manchester, England, in 1878, it arrived in Sydney 145 years ago this August.

In 1962, upon withdrawal, locomotive 1210 was presented to the people of Canberra, and mounted on static display outside the station where she had made history some 48 years earlier. In 1966, the station and corresponding rail yards were all extensively rebuilt.
