Visitor Centre highlights include: A modern exhibition detailing over 6,000 years of history at Lough Gur, listening points, an archaeological dig, Neolithic Pot model and interactive touchscreens. There is also a retail area, playground and coffee dock.

“A Place of dreams – the Lough Gur people” deals with the coming of the first inhabitants – 7 families led by Fer and Gar who crossed the seas bringing animals with them. On their way disaster occurs when Gar’s family is washed overboard and drowned.

Lough Gur has been a place of continuous habitation for at least 6,000 years since the arrival of the Neolithic people and represents in microcosm each of the different ages. The Shield - Lough Gur
The Lough Gur shield is a Yetholm-type shield. It is a distinctive type of shield dating from 1200-800 BC (Bronze Age). Found by Charles and Nicholas Hayes the Lough Gur Shield was sold for just two pounds.
