Mar 3, 2024 · The M16 was based on the half-track personnel carrier M3, and was essentially an MGMC M13 with four .50cal guns. The new weapon mount was designated as M45D, and introduced a 6" (15cm) adapter ring so that the guns could fire to the sides and rear when the armor flaps were unhinged.

The M16's chassis remains largely faithful to the original M3 offering and continues to be based on the "T1E2" development. As a 'half-track', the M16's rear drive components are 'tank-like' and the bonded tread arrangement provides excellent grip on off-road touring.
