The cockpit layout was efficient, featuring a side-mounted control stick - a design that finally saw production in the F-16! The M.B.5 first flew in 1944, and testing continued into 1946.

Aug 23, 2016 · The MB5 is quite large, much larger than a Mustang (37 feet long vs 32 feet), as big as a Thunderbolt (36 feet long), even. It also had shorter wings than a P-51. I think it took advantage of the research that produced the Mustang and adopted some of the aerodynamic elements used on that aircraft, but it's entirely its own machine.
