The M8 is an electric multiple unit railroad car built by Kawasaki for use on the Metro-North Railroad New Haven Line and the CT Rail Shore Line East. The fleet of 471 cars first entered service in 2011, replacing the M2, M4 and M6 cars, which entered service in 1973, 1987 and 1994, respectively. [9]

M8 draw power from third rail, both over- and under-running, or 12.5 kV 60 Hz and 25 kV 60 Hz AC catenary.

The M8 is type of electric multiple unit (EMU) manufactured by Kawasaki Rail Car for the Metro-North Commuter Railroad. The cars began production in 2009 and are meant to replace much of the older fleet. The M8 cars are currently used on the New Haven Line.
