Scientists study music’s effects on brain with fMRI
Apr 27, 2017 · By studying fMRI scans, Dr. Jonathan Burdette, a professor of radiology at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., and his team were able to show that listening to favorite songs, instead of listening to a specific genre of music, increases connections that positively affects one’s default mode network, an area that ...
Investigating emotion with music: An fMRI study - PMC
The present study used pleasant and unpleasant music to evoke emotion and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to determine neural correlates of emotion processing. Unpleasant (permanently dissonant) music contrasted with pleasant (consonant) music showed activations of amygdala, hippocampus, parahippocampal gyrus, and temporal poles.
Music of the 7Ts: Predicting and Decoding Multivoxel fMRI …
Mar 7, 2025 · The high-resolution 7-Tesla fMRI data was previously released via the OpenFMRI initiative (Hanke et al., 2015); the stimuli and experiment design used in the music perception phase of the data release (scanning session III) reproduce the original 3T experiment of Casey et al. . To our knowledge, the current study is the first feature-based ...
Neural and physiological data from participants listening to
Jun 15, 2020 · Our project sought to investigate this through a series of experiments into how humans react to affective musical stimuli and how physiological and neurological signals recorded from those...
Rapid modulation in music supports attention in listeners with ...
Oct 23, 2024 · Rapid modulations in music elicited greater activity in attentional networks in fMRI, as well as greater stimulus-brain coupling in EEG.
A functional MRI study of happy and sad emotions in music with …
Nov 30, 2011 · Using participants’ self-selected musical excerpts, we studied their behavior and brain responses to elucidate how lyrics interact with musical emotion processing, as reflected by emotion recognition and activation of limbic areas involved in affective experience.
Music-induced emotions can be predicted from brain scans
Dec 28, 2020 · Altogether 102 research subjects listened to music that evokes emotions while their brain function was scanned with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Researchers at the University...
In this study I use fMRI to observe which structures in the brain become active in response to music in three male subjects. My results show that different music pieces have unique and measurable affects on the brain. A strong determining factor on the effect that music has is the familiarity of the music to the listener. Results show
The Brain Functional State of Music Creation: an fMRI Study of
Jul 23, 2015 · In this study, we used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to explore the functional networks in professional composers during the creation of music.
Distinct Cortical Pathways for Music and Speech Revealed by …
To address these challenges, we measured fMRI responses to 165 natural sounds and inferred canonical response profiles (“components”) whose weighted combinations explained voxel responses throughout auditory cortex.
