Apr 4, 2012 · Looking out across the Sacramento Mountains north of Sierra Blanca one peak stands out among the rest. Nogal peak is one of those mountains that calls people to climb it, and it has been calling my name every since I first noticed it in the Lincoln National forest outside of Ruidoso New Mexico.

Nogal Trail (#48) is a pleasant hike for anyone. The moderately-used trail gently climbs 600 feet over 1½ miles to a saddle at the base of Nogal Peak. Great views abound.

The Crest-Nogal Peak Trailhead accesses the north-central portion of the White Mountain Wilderness Area. This Trailhead is the northern terminus of Crest Trail (#25). Most hikers, who originate hikes from this location, are hiking the Crest Trail.

Located in Nogal, NM, within the Lincoln National Forest, this trail is a short rugged 1.3 mile route climbing over 1,000 feet in elevation. The steep trail is best suited for hiking and typically sees only light footfall. The trail begins at Crest Trailhead and should take two hours to complete.

Apr 24, 2018 · Once you get to the junction with the Skull Springs Trail (the descent trail), decide if you want to head directly up Nogal Peak (my route), which has no trail and is full of awful thorny bushes but saves a couple miles round-trip.
