Codenamed Operation Oboe Six, [1] the battle was part of the second phase of the Allied operations to capture the island of Borneo.

'Oboe VI' was the Australian seizure of Brunei Bay on the north-western corner of Japanese-occupied Borneo as the final Australian contribution to the overall 'Montclair' plan (10 June/1 July 1945).

Feb 1, 2019 · The second operation, code-named OBOE 6, was a landing on Labuan Island in Brunei Bay, north-west Borneo. The rest of the 9th Division landed with orders to secure the Brunei Bay area so it could be used as an advanced naval base.

Oboe 6 began on 10 June with simultaneous assaults by the 24th Brigade on the island of Labuan and the 20th Brigade on the coast of Brunei in the north-west of Borneo, bought from ships to shore by the 727th Amphibian Tractor Battalion.

Jul 17, 2023 · The three amphibious operations - Oboe 1 (Tarakan), Oboe 2 (Balikpapan) and Oboe 6 (Brunei Bay and Labuan) - were conducted by the 7th and 9th Australian Infantry Divisions in the closing stages of the Second World War.

Initially planned as a series of 6 operations, Operation Oboe eventuated as 3 amphibious landings. They were code-named: Oboe One - the invasion of Tarakan island; Oboe Six - the invasion of north Borneo at Labuan and Brunei; Oboe Two - the invasion of Balikpapan. Operation Oboe Two was the last large-scale Allied operation of the Second World War.

Oboe 6, the landings at Labuan and Brunei Bay in British North Borneo, had no formal Dutch involvement, but oil engineers were later called in to assist with the extinguishing of well fires set by the retreating Japanese.
