Mar 4, 2025 · Founded in 1840 and organized in 1855, Oceana County was built on the lumber trade and later developed for agriculture. Today, Oceana is known as the Asparagus Capital of the World and includes the popular Silver Lake Sand Dunes State Park.

A Brief History of Oceana County First Settlements. The first settlement in Oceana was located at the mouth of Whiskey Creek on Lake Michigan sometime in 1848 or 1849.
