Society for Old Lucan (SOL) works to conserve, research and promote Lucan’s local history, heritage (including green heritage), archaeology and folklore. We were founded in 2017 by a group of individuals living in Lucan who are all passionate about local history and heritage.

Richard John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan (born 18 December 1934 – disappeared 8 November 1974, declared dead 3 February 2016), commonly known as Lord Lucan, was a British peer and gambler who vanished in 1974 after being suspected of killing his children's nanny and attempting to murder his wife.

Nov 7, 2024 · Lord Lucan disappeared the following day, on November 8, 1974. According to LBC, after the alleged crime he arrived at a friend's house in Sussex at 11:30pm on November 7.

I turn off to the left of Main Street in Lucan and make my way across Lucan Bridge. This is the largest single-span masonry bridge in the country at 33 meters and dates from 1814. The bridge that was here beforehand was washed away by flooding (1802).
