He was considered to be one of the strongest Hunters to ever live, if not the strongest. Netero's power was beyond any human limits and that's why every fan of the series loves him so much.

Netero is also revealed to be older than Zeno Zoldyck (Killua's grandfather), who is said to be 67 years of age. At one point, Zeno says that when he was still a young boy, Netero was not only already old, but he is the only person alive who has fought with Maha (Zeno's) grandfather. Netero's final moments were more than intense, one of the best moments in the whole HxH series hands down. Winning with suicide and poison is the last thing we as readers would expect from a man like Netero. In the early chapters, the midnight ball game already shows the reader that there is more to him than the humble granpa looks.
