Nov 10, 2017 · Yes, the Optonica SA-5406 is an absolute gem. A monster. The one I own, I scored for $60 from Craigslist but it needed work - The tuner needed alignment and there were a bunch of bulbs out.

Mar 8, 2022 · Did you replace the fusable resistors? This has been the problem on every Optonica I've worked on. However it sounds like one of the packs is dead and putting out rail voltage.....

Sep 17, 2023 · I have been using the Optonica SA 5606 every day for about 4 years, and it really sound fantastic, especially considering all the parts are original. I've owned a number of comparable (as far as specs) units over the years, and this unit sounds really amazing in stock form, and the build quality and unique aesthetic design are a big plus.

May 3, 2015 · I just got an Optonica SA 5406 receiver that goes straight into protection mode. Protection LED is amber and you cannot hear relay click. The tuner works OK though and it pulls in stations but no output - even on headphones.

May 14, 2009 · I picked up an Optonica sa-5206 from a flea market for $30. Really cool looking black face receiver. Can't remember off the top of my head but I think it is 35-40wpc. I like how it sounds quite a bit and used it on my vinyl rig for a while until it got replaced by my marantz 2285b.

Feb 6, 2021 · I found it - Manual Man has the service manual for the SA-5402/5406 (only difference is the color), but I am going through mine now and there aren’t any voltages listed for IC 601, 602 and 603, which are the pre-driver and the two STK0070 ICs.

Feb 8, 2005 · Optonica was Sharp's effort at getting a piece of the pie, but they had a late start and couldn't make any headway. Pretty good gear, though.
