Oct 2, 2022 · Osland was once an active fishing and boatbuilding community on the east coast of Smith Island at the mouth of the Skeena River, about 68 miles (109 km) southwest of Terrace and 14 miles (23 km) south-southeast of Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

South of the reserve, also facing De Horsey Island, is the ruins of the former post office and wharf of Osland. [10] Hazel Point marks the southern tip of the island, [ 11 ] just east of the point is a bay that is site of the former cannery and settlement of Oceanic .

OSLAND, a FISHING and farming settlement on the east side of Smith Island, 20 km southeast of PRINCE RUPERT on the North Coast, was settled about 1913 by a group of Icelanders from Manitoba. The community had a population of 70 in the 1920s, but by 1952 most people had moved to Prince Rupert.
