Aug 17, 2022 · I recall many threads related to P-90 v. HB sized P-90s. As with all things TGP, there were plenty of opinions to the effect that a humbucker sized P-90 can “never” sound exactly like a conventional P-90. Whatever….. if you have a HB route and want more of a P90 vibe, you do what you need to do.

May 25, 2015 · the thing with P90's is, the closer the whole pickup to the strings, the better it sounds. what i usually do when i setup a P90's pickup is, raise the whole pickup closer to the string until i get the desired volume and then adjust the pole pieces to balances each strings volume, so no one strings is louder than the rest.

Dec 19, 2015 · This is a great pickup. As with all his pickups, it's meant to be it's own thing roughly designed after a particular pickup. Of course, any Strat size P90 is going to be roughly designed after a P90. I have one in my Strat, and also a couple of the Tele versions in two partscasters. He says it's just for the bridge position.

Apr 8, 2020 · A P90 is a single coil. So is a Strat pickup, or a Tele pickup, or a Hi-Lo Tron, etc. Single coil is, in itself, a very generic term that doesn't refer to any one specific pickup. There are a lot of very different types of single coil pickups. I like single coils. A P90 is my favorite single coil, but I only like them in the bridge position.

Feb 2, 2018 · I tried a set of "Boutique" P90 size humbuckers before I knew about Dimario soapbars. They sounded good but didn't do the "Jimmy Page" tone in the middle position. Then I stumbled across the Dimarzios and gave them a try. Couldn't be happier. The DLXs are a bit on the hotter side compared to a classic PAF tone but the sound GREAT for what I do.

Mar 4, 2025 · From a price to performance ratio I don't think anybody can beat BG Pickups P90's. At $85 dollars per pickup they nail that vintage P90 tone as well as the Lollar Dog Ear P90's, Seymour Duncan Vintage P90 (which is wound on the same exact machine Gibson wound their pickups on in the '50s and '60s), and the vintage Gibson P90's I have had.

Oct 12, 2024 · I really liked what I heard in an A3-loaded neck P90. A4 has worked well too. That extra bit of sustain on the note's decay has always been something I noticed in A3 pickups though. I've found A5 too scooped for bridge P90's. A4 should work well, but if you still need a little more fat, I would combine A4 with A2 to see how that sounds.

Nov 4, 2024 · Yes, you can get a stratty neck tone to a pretty good degree, but i find that happen far more on a guitar with a wraptail bridge when it cmes to gibson designs. Unfortunately ihave no P90 experience on a tele but since my P90 experience is on LP specials and i can get a lot of fender style goodness, no doubt on a tele t will be great.

Feb 21, 2007 · A Tele was my sound for a time. Thickened through a Marshall 900. Then I rediscovered P90 and largely returned to Fender voiced amps. With a P90 voiced guitar and Fender amp I can get simply any sound I wish. (I do add a touch of overdrive if the room volume is to be truly low.)-don

Aug 21, 2023 · Hello, I’m interested in buying a yamaha revstar with p90 pickups. I really love how the guitar sounds in the demos but I’m concerned about the pickups. Are here any Revstar owners that can tell how noisy they are? Are they on similar hum level of normal single coils or much noisier? I’m especially curious about the pickups in rs520t model.
