PICO-8's specifications and ecosystem are instead designed from scratch to produce something that has its own identity and feels real. Instead of physical cartridges, programs made for PICO-8 are distributed on .png images that look like cartridges, complete with labels and a fixed 32k data capacity. After trying a bunch, I've settled on the TrimUI Smart Pro. While the screen is wide, it effectively has the same display as the RGB30 for Pico-8, being a 720p device. Aside from that, it checks all of the other boxes. As a bonus, no 3rd party CFW is necessary, as stock supports Pico-8 natively (with freely available wrapper).
