RG8X v.s. RG58U Cable? - RadioReference.com Forums
Jan 10, 2006 · Under 30 feet there isnt a significant perfomance difference. If you are looking at mobile mounts, i am assuming you are plannign to run the cable in your vehicle. In that case RG58 is a much better choice becasue of its size and flexiability. For a more permenant building mount, you are better off with RG8 if the run is any significant length.

Apr 15, 2020 · 2.RG8 my 'go to' cable for long runs at vhf hi/uhf/700/800 - A real animal, can be hard to work with but worth the effort. Kick myself for selling all my 50ft rolls. 3.RG6 Good/Low Cost - Used at times, never did buy the 75ohm doesn't matter.
Did I mess up by buying RG174 antenna cable instead of RG8 or …
Dec 31, 2023 · Hey guys, after doing some reading in the manual for my Uniden BC125AT scanner, I read where it said to use RG8 or RG58 coax cable if you're going to be using an outdoor antenna. Well, I'm not necessarily using an outdoor antenna currently because I dont have one but I did buy a 10' length of...

RG8, RG213, RG11, and LMR400 are generally about 1/2" in diameter. RG8x is smaller at about 1/4" in diameter. The specs on all of them are different (even if they are the same diameter) due to other factors.

Jul 30, 2012 · I was looking at this - 100ft RG8x Coax UHF (PL259) Male to Male 50 ohm Antenna Cable - R-U100 for running a temp. jpole antenna. I didn't see any 75ft which would work for me however if it is not recommended to use 100ft I could use the 50ft and maybe add on an additional 10ft. I'd be running about 50 watts max for both vhf and uhf.

Using F-Connectors with 50 Ohm RG8 - RadioReference.com Forums
Jan 19, 2024 · Using F-Connectors (Typical CATV connectors) with RG8/RG58 (50 ohm) Antenna Cable for RF Transmission. I am installing a Thru-Wall Antenna Port in my apartment (with permission) for my Ham Rig. I do not want to install a PL/SO connector type at the wall plate because they are large and uncommon.
Is RG 8 Foam Type Coax Cable The Best? - RadioReference.com …
Mar 30, 2008 · RG-8 is definitely better than RG-58. RG-58 is not TV cable, older cable would be RG-59 and newer stuff would be RG-6. TV cable (RG-59 and RG-6) is 75 ohm impedance, RG-8 and RG-58 is 50 ohm impedance. So, if you already have the RG-8, go for it. 75 feet would have a bit less than 5dB loss at 800 MHz, which isn't terrible but not great either.

Apr 12, 2011 · Brand name LMR-400 is worth buying, if you are going for new cable, but you said you wanted to use the cable on hand. The upshot of the whole deal is it probably does not matter what cable (of the two you listed as on-hand) you use on what radio, I am assuming the Ranger is 6 meters or down (probably 10/12 meters) and the Yaesu FT-2500 is 2 meters.
What cable do you use from scanner to antenna?
Aug 10, 2009 · For those of you who have an outside antenna. What cable do you use? RG8, RG58 etc.? I expect on receive-only that there is a trade-off between loss per foot versus exact match from radio ohms to cable ohms. For example, RG8 is a perfect 50 ohm match, but is much more lossy at VHF/UHF than RG6.
