GP40 and GP40-2 locomotives were added to the fleet between 1968 and 1972 for use on through freights and other high priority freight trains. All former SAL locomotives ran for many years in the "Split-image" scheme, still in full SAL paint, but relettered and renumbered SCL.

SCL 6764 pauses at the old Georgia Railroad's Harrisonville Yard in Augusta, Georgia. Nearly everything in this Picture is gone today. Local train for Columbia is leaving the northend of Savannah Yard. Another SCL herald missing!!!

3009 ex-SCL 205 08/74, nee-SAL 1464. 3010 ; ex-SCL 221 08/74, nee-SAL 1480. Dates are the build dates for the slugs, not necessarily when they were sold. Custom Services of Jacksonville, Florida, did the first three; they were originally 3000-3002 and r# S1-S3 per the data, S1-S3 then r# 3000-3002 by 04/1971 per the caption. Caption is correct.

Feb 27, 2025 · Seaboard Coast Line GP40 #1519 was built May 1966, on order #7885, as Seaboard Air Line #604. Unit later became Seaboard System #6676, then CSX #6676. Unit left roster to be rebuilt to GP40M-2 and became SSW #7285

SCL EMDs 1568 and 605 get a northbound extra underway out of Baldwin FL. This is former SAL territory. The tower in the going away shot controls the crossing with the Tallahassee sub. SCL GP40 1568 (35081, 12/69) was later SBD 6723, rebuilt to CSX road slug 2207.
