Oct 23, 2009 · Somehow, I get the feeling the Soviets built the SKS's for eyewash and maybe export rather more than for front line use, as the AK program was well under way in the fifties, which is the manufacture date of most all Soviet SKS rifles ever seen. The SKS was brought out for parades and other public duties, keeping the AK hidden as long as possible.

It has the serial number HExxxx on all the usual areas including the bolt right behind where the stripper entrance is located and the edges of the numbers are sharp. On the side of the receiver it says Russia SKS-45 7.62X39 KBI,INC HBG,PA RH2161xx.

May 17, 2012 · However, on a Russian SKS the rifle markings would be on the top cover. It looks like the top cover is blank, or void of markings. My guess is that it is infact a russian SKS that has been recently imported as a refinished surplus rifle, much like the recent nagants, but the top cover has been replaced with a non Russian top cover.
