Jul 16, 2007 · I compared them with Sennheiser HD650, AKG K-712, HiFiMAN HE-400 and Beyerdynamic DT150 and HD555 wins in almost every genre. The cans I remember were better than HD555 was K-701 but mostly in good quality instrumental rerecordings. K-701s bass was so great, tight extended and well controled and treble so natural and precise.

Jan 21, 2009 · Very nice pics and comparison. Thank you. I have owned the HD555 and HD595 (120 Ohm, not the 50 Ohm) at different times. I ran the HD555 from a SB Live Value sound card with a $100 portable amp and the HD595 from a Harmon Kardon receiver, and they sounded quite different with the HD595 a noticeable step up.

May 5, 2010 · They are far better then they should be. Recently I came back from DT880 to my repaired HD555 (cause one driver in DT880 is either dead or half-dead). And I was absolutely stunned how much clearer HD 555 sound is. DT880 sound much smoother, more "melodical" you might say, but clarity like in HD 555 isnt there (neither accuracy I suspect).

Sep 9, 2010 · Originally I used a soldering iron because that was the only thing in the how-to's other people created used. I also ripped out the nylon baffle which I shouldn't have done. So this time around, I will make it much easier, and better sound as well. Stay tuned for my re-wiring of the HD555-595 because I will explain in depth how to do that.
