The STEN (or Sten gun) is a British submachine gun chambered in 9×19mm which was used extensively by British and Commonwealth forces throughout World War II and during the Korean War. The Sten paired a simple design with a low production cost, facilitating mass production to meet the demand for submachine guns.

Sten guns were produced in several basic marks (though the Mk I saw limited service, and the Mk IV was never issued), and nearly half of the total produced were Mark II versions. Approximately 4.5 million Stens were produced during the second world war.

Feb 12, 2023 · The MkIV is the missing link between the most utilitarian Sten, the MkIII, and the final iteration – the wooden-stocked MkV. Very little is known about the MkIVs development and more archival research is needed.

Mar 24, 2023 · The Sten Mk4 was developed experimentally in 1943 for use by British paratroops. It used a remarkably awful folding stock along with a shortened receiver and barrel to make a very compact package – albeit one that must have been very uncomfortable to shoot.

Jun 16, 2021 · Perhaps no other weapon signifies the role of resistance fighters throughout World War II better than the unmistakable Sten gun. Its crude metal appearance gives it a made in someone’s garage vibe…and with good reason. It very well might have been.

The Sten Mk.V was considered the best Sten variant. It was designed in 1944 and incorporated a wooden butt and pistol grip, and redesigned sights taken from a Lee-Enfield No.4 rifle. Internally it was much the same as the previous models.

highly effective weapons. In Germany, the STEN models “Potsdam” and “Neumünster” were manufactured during WW II. In late 1944, the Mauser works in Germany secretly started manufacturing copies of British Mk II Sten, apparently for diversion and sabotage purposes.

Mar 25, 2023 · Yesterday we looked at the mechanics and the history of the Sten Mk4 (S), and today we have it out at the range! The very short barrel and its porting reduce the velocity of standard 115gr 9mm ammunition below the speed of sound, and so the gun is very quiet.
