So in essence if you configure a portchannel between a switch and a router, create subinterfaces and assign them ip addresses you can use those for interVLAN routing, but if you simply create a layer 2 trunk you won't be able to create subinterfaces to associate with VLANs using the "encapsulation dot1q <vlan>" command.

If you unplug the cable from an interface, the interface goes to state down (and with the primary interface, also all subinterfaces go down). A loopback-interface is only down, if you set it to administratively down, in all other cases it will stay up.

Tried configuring subinterfaces on CSR1000v have the same issue. Works fine with IOSv with the same configuration. Looks like the issue is with CSR1000v. This was my Scenario: CSR1 <-IOSvL2> CSR2 . IOSvL2 has the interfaces towards the routers configured as trunk and the CSR's have encapsulation dot1q 10 on the subinterfaces.

Hi! You can´t create sub-interface on 3560s or 3750s . You don´t need to create subinterfaces on a L3 switch. Instead make the port a trunk port and then create a L3 SVI for each vlan you want to rout
