T-34-85. Model 1943 - This production model was built from February to March 1944 at Zavod 112, with the 85 mm D-5T gun and a new larger cast three-man turret, a commander's cupola and two dome-shaped ventilators clustered together on top of the turret.

The T-34-85 (German designation: T-34/85) was a major improvement with an 85 mm gun in a three-man turret. All T-34-85 models are externally very similar. Model 1943: Short production run of January–March 1944 with D-5T 85 mm gun.

Yugoslavia produced a small number of a very unique variant with a radically different turret and modified glacis plate. A small number of T-34-85’s were captured and put into use by Germany, Finland and Rumania.

The T-34/85 was introduced in 1944 and featured a larger turret with a more powerful 85mm D-5T gun compared to the earlier 76.2mm gun on the standard T-34. This larger gun allowed the T-34/85 to engage enemy tanks more effectively.

Dec 17, 2022 · The T-34-85 turret, developed on the basis of the turret design for the experimental medium T-43, was five-sided, with rounded ribs, and had armor thickness increased to 90 mm in the frontal part.

RPM/Maquette released their detailed T-34/85 Model 1946; plus their separate engine, turret and track link sets. This was closely followed by Zvezda and Italeri with their simpler, but dimensionally accurate T-34/76 Model 1943, T-34/85 Model 1945 and SU-100; then RPM again with their limited edition T-34/76.

In addition to this, the turret ring diameter, if the shape of the hull was to be kept unchanged, reached its practical limits on the T-34-85. This prevented mounting a larger gun system in the turret.

Jun 1, 2024 · Initially known as the “T-34, 1943 model”, it added an 85 mm anti-tank gun to the three man turret crew. The new gun led to it being reclassified as the T-34-85 in January 1944. This quickly became the only production model.

During 1943 the Turret was redesigned to utilize a bigger main gun. The 85mm high velocity was installed and proved to be a “Tiger Killer”. This up-gunned version was known as the T-34/85. The T-34/85 operated for decades after WWII in the Soviet army as well as many other Soviet allies.
