Burt Ripley is a character from The Mask (1994). He was portrayed by actor Johnny Williams. Burt runs a garage in Edge City along with his brother Irv that specializes in ripping off customers by "finding" new problems with their vehicles.

The directors decided to go for a funny, PG rated, family friendly movie. And yes, apparently shoving an exhaust pipe up a mechanic's ass is family friendly and funny per Hollywood and the MPAA. I think the difference is in how the violence is portrayed.

You can find the original The Mask comics online if you look around. They are worth a read, particularly the first few arcs. But it makes you realise just how much they toned the series down for the big screen. Mufflers ain’t the half of it.
