Areyonga, known locally as Utju, is nestled in a spectacular valley in the western end of the MacDonnell Ranges, about 100km from Hermannsburg and 240km west of Alice Springs.

Areyonga (also called Utju in Pitjantjatjara) is a small town in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is located about 220 km west of Alice Springs. About 300 people live in the town, most of whom are Aboriginal. The people are mostly Pitjantjatjara, with some Arrernte and Walpiri families. The town is governed by Areyonga Aboriginal Community.

In 1999 our Aboriginal ladies from Utju, sing in Parliament House in Canberra, in their traditional Pitjanjatjara language.

In 1990 the land at Areyonga, renamed Utju, was handed over to Aboriginal community control. The Areyonga Native Settlement was first established during the 1920s when drought forced Pitjanjatjara people from the Petermann area to move to Hermannsburg and then to Areyonga.

And the Anangu, or people, wanted it to stay that way. In the early 1970s, Areyonga School had around 70 students.

Utju Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (UHSAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) established in 1973, providing primary healthcare services to the Utju Aboriginal community. UHSAC is one of the remote health services of the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress.
