I owned two Audis long term before coming back to a Volkswagen. My 23 R is my fourth VW overall and my 3rd golf. I really enjoy the car. I love the way the car handles/drives. I added a short shifter in within 30 days of ownership and that was a game changer. Then I drove the car without other modifications for the first year.

Jun 25, 2024 · To me the Golf R has always felt too sedate and sensible to be properly enjoyed as a drivers car. I've driven a MK7 DSG and a MK6 Manual and the manual whilst rubbery and having a pretty dull feel was still such a more enjoyable experience than throwing the DSG into a corner and feeling like the car is doing everything for you.

The decisions VW has made on this gen removing things is swaying me elsewhere, and my current R is the 4th Golf I've owned. I thought the 8.5 would fix things, though looking at the GTI where they moved the ACC sensor back down is ridiculous esp in a snowy area. Hopefully the mk8.5 R atleast adds brake hold back
