Apr 30, 2012 · Scrim is a polyester grid that helps anchor cotton fibers. If you buy batting that says it's 97% cotton, it's because they've added the grid to stabilize the cotton fibers. It helps keep the cotton fibers from separating when the quilt is washed.

Mar 3, 2012 · most batts that allow up to 10" between quilting lines have a scrim- most you really can not tell which side is which- both sides have fibers thru- the scrim is in the center- if you can tell you might want to put it toward the backing-but when it is all done & the quilt is laundered- no one is going to have any idea....it does not make any difference in the finished quilt.

When quilting Warm & Natural or Warm & White, it is usually easier to do so in the same direction it was needle-punched - the cotton side facing towards your quilt top and the scrim side facing toward your quilt backing.

Oct 29, 2010 · Needle punching batting through scrim makes it even more stable. Warm n Natural is an example of a batting that is needle-punched through scrim. It is very, very stable so needs to be quilted only 10" or so apart, or a quilt with this kind of batting can be tied. Scrim can give a batting a slightly more stiff drape.

Jun 28, 2012 · You've been doing it right, no need to change. The scrim side of both W&N and W&W is the flat side, not the bumpy side. Look at W&N, the dirty side, the one with the flecks, is the non-scrim (top) side. That's also the side with the bumps. The scrim (bottom) side is whiter and flatter. The Warm Company confirms this on their FQ page.
