In Fiji kava is known as yaqona. A wooden bowl in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection used to drink yaqona dates to the early 19th century and is 22 inches (55.9 centimeters) wide. This vessel, carved in the form of a vonu (turtle) is a tiinoa, a large bowl used to serve yaqona during communal drinking ceremonies.
