Ys Origin is a prequel to the six previous installations of the Ys series. It takes place 700 years before the events of Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished: Omen , and tells much of the backstory of Ys , Darm Tower , the Black Pearl , the twin goddesses , and the six priests .

Toal Fact (トール＝ファクト?), also known as "The Claw" (鉤爪の男?) is Ys Origin's final playable main character, unlocked after finishing the game's story mode as either Yunica or Hugo. He is the older brother of Hugo and son of the strongest Priest of Ys, Cain Fact.

) is one of the playable main characters of Ys Origin, and the daughter of the deceased Saul Tovah, former leader of the Holy Knights of Ys. She is an heir to the Tovah bloodline, one of the six families entrusted with the safekeeping and welfare of Ys.

List of items in Ys Origin. Weapons are upgraded with Cleria Ore found or received at specific points in the story. Yunica and Hugo first need to take the found ore to Rico Gemma in the Search Party Base to let him temper the weapons, while The Claw absorbs the ore himself.
