Dec 24, 2007 · Some of the snap rings hold slip-fit parts and some are for bearing reatiner location. A good shop manual (factory)will have the disassembly procedure and will show a list of all the special tools necessary. You need access to a press, trans lube, a few pairs of snap ring pliers, and a decent socket set of course.

Dec 13, 2017 · I pulled the ZF6 because of a short clutch release problem along with noisy gears and grinding the gears while shifting. While down there, I noticed the fingers on the pressure plate were worn and the infamous 7.3 input shaft was toast.

Dec 27, 2008 · Did not need to remove any of the gears, bearings, or syncro's from the rear half of the trans. The entire mainshaft and counter shaft assembly will lift out of the front case 1/2 with the 2" wide center aluminum section. I just didn't pry hard enough. Got the new roll pins installed, transmission re-assembled and in the truck this past week.
