Nov 9, 2021 · Shearer was the world most expensive player during the Ronaldo era (although Ronaldo was then bought again for more). He was unplayable during the 94 to 98, and then had two serious injuries. He dipped after that, but maintained a good record.

Aug 14, 2014 · I remember Shearer at Euro96. His accuracy and calmness in front of goal was something else. I remember watching him train and being able to put a ball through a tyre at some distance. Some footballers can say "top right corner" and put it there. And even less can do that in a game and drill it where they want it. Shearer was in the later category.

Shearer is a legendary striker, but was never in this position as he was always an automatic pick, for teams that weren't playing 60+ games a season and competing for multiple trophies. He never really had to develop a holistic understanding of these situations, and "me scored goals, me want score more goals" isn't exactly good teammate material.
