CCSSO’s National Teacher of the Year (NTOY) Program is the most prestigious teacher recognition program in the country. Each year, CCSSO provides a new cohort of State Teachers of the Year with a yearlong, one-of-a-kind professional learning and development experience.

Washington, D.C. (January 30, 2025) – The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) today announced that four inspiring educators from across the country are finalists for the 2025 National Teacher of the Year. CCSSO runs the National Teacher of the Year Program with Google for Education becoming the lead sponsor in 2025.

Each year, states and territories select their teacher of the year through their own process and CCSSO celebrates them and provides a one-of-a-kind year of professional learning. The 2025 cohort comprises 56 educators in teaching roles, prekindergarten through high school.

The National Teacher of the Year is a professional award in the United States. The program began in 1952, as a project by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), and aims to reward excellence in teaching .

Each year, CCSSO celebrates State Teachers of the Year from U.S. states, territories, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education by providing them with a robust year-long professional learning and engaging program.
