The new quarters assigned to some 260 employees of the National Meteorological Center are on the second, third, fourth, and sixth floors of the World Weather Building. NMC shares the third floor with the Washington Weather Service Forecast Office and the sixth with the National Environmental Satellite Service (NESS).

The Office plans for and ensures disposal project execution for vacated real properties. The Office is responsible for establishing national level safety and environmental compliance programs, policies and procedures.

OU and NOAA, partner agencies making up the NWC, have expended a total of $69 million to construct and occupy the building. The building is 250,000 square feet with five stories plus a rooftop outdoor classroom and enclosed weather observation deck.

The first floor of the building is approximately 11,500 SF, of which 7,750 SF is the home of the National Weather Service. Science on a Sphere occupies 1,025 SF of space, with a 1,200 SF warehouse on the end.

Nearly all of NOAA’s global meteorological data arrives here for analysis by environmental scientists, who share the information with weather forecasters across the U.S. HOK’s design minimizes the Center’s impact on the environment and connects people to nature.
