
Philippines Traditional Boat Update
Feb 16, 2023 · I have a 30' traditional style "bangka" boat made of wood. The bottom of the boat is a solid piece of wood they call the "kasko". The sides are plywood. There is a kind of worm that gets into the wooden hull and burrows through the wood making big holes. The boat is much heavier than when I first got it due to all the water filling these holes.

That first example Filipino bangka, the one that looks like a refuge for homeless, is by far the most seaworthy of the four boat pictures. My favorite, with the European design modifications, is a tossup for 2nd place with the much heavier Indonesian fishing boat for 2nd.

Feb 20, 2009 · It's a 12' boat and there are three benches, and each bench is ~13" wide and the width of the ship at the point of attachment. I haven't calculated the exact interior volume of the benches, but by my rough calculations the total interior bench volume represents something like 30% of the interior volume of the boat. Dec 27, 2020 · Here is a youtube video showing a largish Filipino Banca, a Banca is a double outrigger. One thing of note is that the boat has two engines on the centerline, one forward and lower, the other higher and aft. Both have long shafts. I assume this gives some redundancy , and fits into the long narrow hullshape, have never seen that before

There is good reason for using outriggers for a sailing boat, not nearly as much reason for using outriggers on a power boat.
