The rash from kava dermopathy often begins on head, face and neck, and gradually becomes more generalised [4]. The rash is ichthyosiform (resembling ichthyosis ); that is, rough, dry and scaly. The scales are polygonal in shape.

It is well-established that chronic use of kava can cause a reversible ichthyosiform pellagroid dermopathy2, 3; however, detailed individual reports of cutaneous reactions to kava in an acute setting are sparse in the literature.
