What is the unit circle? - Socratic
Mar 3, 2018 · See description below. In mathematics, a unit circle is a circle with a radius of one. In trigonometry, the unit circle is the circle of radius one centered at the origin (0, 0) in the Cartesian coordinate system in the Euclidean plane. The point of the unit circle is that it makes other parts of the mathematics easier and neater. For instance, in the unit circle, for any angle …
How do you find the csc, sec, and cot. of theta in a unit circle?
Apr 24, 2015 · If theta corresponds to the point (x,y) on the unit circle, then: csc theta = 1/y sec theta = 1/x cot theta = x/y
calculus - Generating definite integral for unit circle without ...
I realize that I can consult integration tables for integrals like this, but I wanted to test my knowledge of integration techniques to solve this integral for the area of the unit circle. $$2\int_{-1}^1\sqrt{1-x^2}dx$$
integration - Area of the unit circle using integrals - Mathematics ...
Mar 4, 2017 · In Calculus by Michael Spivak, the area of the unit circle is explored using integrals: If $0 \le x \le 1$, this area can be expressed as the sum of the area of a triangle and the area of a region under the unit circle: $\dfrac{x\sqrt{1 - x^2}}{2} + \int_{x}^{1} (\sqrt{1 - t^2}) dt$

trigonometry - In the unit circle, how are sine and cosine values ...
Nov 23, 2016 · I do understand that the unit circle has a radius of 1 and sides of triangles made within it must pertain to the pythagorean theorem (hence these values with radicals, for accuracy), but that is all I understand. How would one know to put exactly $\frac{\sqrt 3}{2}$ for the sine of $\frac{\pi}{3}$ radians? This is unclear to me.
calculus - Trigonometric functions and the unit circle
Aug 27, 2022 · Since the circumference of the unit circle happens to be $(2\pi)$, and since (in Analytical Geometry or Trigonometry) this translates to $(360^\circ)$, students new to Calculus are taught about radians, which is a very confusing and ambiguous term.

matrices - Equation of unit circle under linear transformation
Nov 21, 2019 · A linear transform maps the unit circle on an ellipse. The ellipse corresponding with a matrix $$ A =\ \left[\begin{matrix}a & b\\c &d\\\end{matrix}\right] $$ is defined by: $$\left(d^2+c^2\right)x^2-2\left(ac+bd\right)xy+\left(a^2+b^2\right)y^2-\left(ad-bc\right)^2=0 $$
